Welcome to the Faithrants.com blog!
I started this little online public journal to share some of the random ideas running around and colliding in my head and, hopefully, spark some discussion about Christianity, postmodern culture, where the two intersect, and what it looks like when they do. Along the way, I’ll rant, ramble, reflect, share, digress, and probably even proselytize a little bit.
I tend to see faith in a different light than most people of my generation and background. I grew up in church, always called myself a Christian, and honestly thought that’s what I was until a few years ago when I started to truly understand what it means to be a Christ Follower. At age 40, after 20-some years of wandering in the wilderness in a spiritual sense and a brief season of rediscovering life in the church, I re-dedicated my life to Christ in a more real sense than I ever knew was possible when I was younger. I am now an unabashed Jesus Freak, and this blog is just one avenue God has given me to share my own encounter with the resurrected Christ.
Faithrants.com is about Radical Faith. A faith that acts in ways that both shocks and shapes culture. I think that’s just what faith should be…radical! That’s what Jesus was…it’s what Jesus IS. The way he impacts lives, transform culture, and changes the world is nothing if it’s not completely radical!
The postings here may sometimes be theologically controversial, will rarely be politically correct, and may occasionally even be a bit nonsensical. What they will be is an authentic discussion of how I’m seeing my relationship with God on any given day, and what I feel he’s placed on my heart to share here.
And finally, a little disclaimer: The opinions I express on this blog are not intended to be reflective of the stances of any churches or organizations with whom I am affiliated on any particular issue. In fact, I may express the occasional opinion that conflicts directly with stated positions. The point is, the opinions posted here are mine and mine alone. I am willing to discuss, disect and enter into a dialogue about anything I post here. Heck, I might even change my mind on something if I hear a compelling argument…there is no way I could even begin to claim any kind of exclusive ownership of truth. Opinions are meant to be shared and are open to change. Truth is truth. This blog is about the former as I try to seek out and discern the latter.
So read on and enjoy. Comment, discuss, disagree, rant back, ramble on, even proselytize a little bit yourself if you like. As my daughter says, “It’s a blog eat blog world!”
Shalom,
Joe Webb
